About me...
Presently I am employed as a Senior Lead Program Manager at Microsoft. As part of the Live Search organization, I work on infusing Client (Desktop) software with web search scenarios. Just recently, I had been on the Live Search QnA project. I am based out of the Microsoft's Silicon Valley Campus in Mountain View, California. In addition, I am currently a Class of 2011 student at Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley. My wife and I live on the San Francisco Bay Area peninsula. I'd talk about my hobbies, but frankly I have time for none right now.
About my past work...
- 2008-: Program Manager in bing: Live Search QnA, and now client technologies.
- 2006-2008: Program Manager on a web communications related project.
- 2005-2006: Program Manager on Windows Live Toolbar and Windows Desktop Search. Of the features I designed and executed, I am particularly proud of Smart Menus - in a review CNet has a screenshot and calls it ‘useful’!
2000-2005: Program Manager on
Microsoft Office for the Mac. I designed and executed a plethora of features
and functionality primarily around improving information management, simplifying
maintenance required by customers, and implementing enhanced enterprise support
in Entourage, but also PowerPoint and MSN Explorer for Mac. I also delivered two
talks at MacWorld Expo.- 1997-1999: Summer/Winter Network Engineer Intern at Dresdner Bank. Working at 75 Wall St (which is now shockingly a condo tower) I got a taste of what it is like to work in a fast pace, high pressure environment. One summer I worked as part of a small team to build a diaster recovery site in short order. Talk about a learning experience! Ask me about the time I ‘fell’ through the floor, or the time I took down a data feed for a trading floor.
About my past...
Born in Manhattan, I am originally from Brooklyn and Queens, NY. I grew up in a
small town in Long Island (properly pronounced “Lawn Ghuyland”). As
a Junior at Great Neck South High, with a classmate and a teacher, I would start
GNPS Online, the district’s first bulletin board system with a grant from
NYNEX. It was definitely quite the exciting experience of setting up an online community,
right as public understanding of online communications started its rapid ascent.
Eventually I would go on to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and a Minor in Economics at The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. While at Hopkins, I was employed as the Student Residential Network Coordinator where I was responsible for managing a small team of peers to maintain the network connections in the residential halls, and other parts of the campus. I ended up seeing a lot of parts of the campus that few others have - including the underground tunnels.
About mileage runs...
Yes it’s true I once went from San Jose to Portland via Seattle (and back.) It’s also true that I once went from Baltimore to San Francisco via Boston and New York. It's also true that I once went from Austin to San Jose via Dallas and Chicago - and that I actually had no reason to be in Austin. Now that was a true mileage run. I was even quoted in Business Traveler (April 2007) magazine on this topic.
